Mikulski, Cardin Announce $54,000 for Cambridge Economic Development Department

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Benjamin L. Cardin (both D-MD) announced today that the City of Cambridge has been awarded a $54,000 USDA Rural Development grant to hire an Executive Director for the Economic Development Department, which opened approximately a year ago. The Director will provide technical assistance to new and existing small and emerging businesses in the community.

“This federal funding is an investment in the economic growth and development of Dorchester County,” said Senator Mikulski. “I will continue to fight in the U.S. Senate for grants like this that support our communities.”

“Cambridge is an attractive location for businesses and it has strong potential for future growth,” said Senator Cardin. “It is important that the community have the staff and resources to take advantage of future development opportunities.”

The Rural Development grant program was created to improve the economy and quality of life in rural America. The program helps support essential services and infrastructure improvements, and promotes economic development by supporting loans to businesses through banks and community-managed lending pools. Dorchester County is a USDA targeted area.
