On September 8, 2008, I, along with other supporters of
the American Energy Act stood on the steps of the U.S.
Capitol demanding a vote on the legislation. The American
Energy Act will help lower the price you pay at the pump by encouraging
innovation and investment in renewable energy, increasing conservation
and increasing exploration for new sources of energy.
I know how high energy costs are hurting
Eastern Washington farmers, families and small businesses, and it's important
we have the opportunity to vote on the American Energy Act.
Spreading
the Word
Most Americans support exploring for new sources
of American energy, but not everyone in Congress agrees. Help me
spread the word to convince my fellow members it's time to act!
I explained
my "all of the above" energy approach in this
column that ran in the Seattle Times.
On July 24, 2008, I recorded
this video statement urging Democrat House leadership to schedule
an energy vote before leaving for the August district work period.
Unfortunately, they sent us home without a vote.
I've
laid out the approaches I believe will make America more energy
independent and reduce gas prices. Click here

where we go from here.
Recognizing
the Role of Hydropower in Meeting America's Energy Needs
As Ranking Member on the Water and Power Subcommittee,
I am working to protect our Pacific Northwest dams and spread the
word about the many benefits of renewable, clean and emissions-free
hydropower.

McMorris Rodgers' Provisions Included in Higher Education
Bill
McMorris Rodgers served
as a confereee to the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.
The bill, which passed the House, contains several of the priorities
McMorris Rodgers has been working for since coming to Congress.
“I
remain deeply concerned that removing the 36th RQF from Fairchild
AFB will reduce the effectiveness of Air Force survival training
and reduce the lifesaving resources in the Northwest,” McMorris
Rodgers said.
Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers visiting the
36RQF crew in April of 2007.
In December, the Washington State
Congressional delegation asked the Air Force to provide a report
outlining the squadron's capabilities in the Northwest. The report
came back in May and left many of my questions unanswered. That's
why in a follow-up letter I asked the Air Force to provide more
specific answers that I believe will highlight the important role
the 36th RQF plays at Fairchild and across the Northwest.

up letter by clicking here.
"It’s the goal of the Congressional
Down Syndrome Caucus to allow every child with Down syndrome to
reach their full potential. We’ll work to raise expectations
and improve education, make it easier for people with Down syndrome
to find jobs, and promote funding and research for effective treatments
and therapies,” McMorris Rodgers said.
