FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 16, 1999
SCHUMER OPENS LONG ISLAND OFFICE
First Regional LI Office for a US Senator
US Senator Charles E. Schumer opened his Long Island
regional office today. Schumer was joined by community and business
leaders and elected officials, including Reps. Ackerman, King, Lazio
and McCarthy. The Melville office is the first regional office on
Long Island for a US Senator.
"More than ever Long Island is an integral part of New York
State," said Schumer. "It is one of the driving forces
in our economy. It is home to two million people. Long Islanders
shouldn't have to dial 212 to get help from their senator."
Since taking office, Schumer has opened offices in New York City,
Albany, Binghamton, Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse. These offices
handle casework including Social Security, Medicare, veteran's benefits
and visa applications. They also serve as a location to help with
area economic development.
"I want Long Islanders to feel they can drive right up or
make a call to get to their senator," said Schumer "I
don't recall there ever being another Senate office on Long Island
so this would be the first time for residents to have their concerns
heard first-hand by their Senator. Long Islanders should be assured:
no problem is too big and no problem is too small for my office."
Jason Goldstein, Sen. Schumer's Long Island Regional Representative,
can be reached at (631) 753-0978. The office is located at:
