Chairman Gordon Speaks With Business and Higher Education Leaders on U.S. Innovation, Competitiveness

On March 13, some of the nation's top business leaders, innovators and academics gathered to testify before the House Committee on Science & Technology on the critical importance of science and technology to U.S. prosperity.

Before the hearing, Chairman Bart Gordon (D-TN) held a conversation on increasing U.S. competitiveness with some of those leaders: Norm Augustine, Chair of the National Academies' Rising Above the Gathering Storm report committee; Robert Dynes, President of the University of California; and Harold McGraw III, Chairman, President and CEO, the McGraw-Hill Companies and Chairman of the Business Roundtable.

The group also spoke at a press conference along with other business, education and government leaders representing more than 270 U.S. businesses and universities. The Tapping America's Potential organization presented Congress with the "American Innovation Proclamation," which emphasizes their support for quick action on legislative efforts to increase investments in U.S. research and improve student achievement in science and math.
