Greenville HBCU Committee honors Inglis with Community Action Award

(August 29, 2008)

The Greenville Historically Black Colleges & Universities Classic Committee presented Rep. Bob Inglis with the group’s annual 2008 Community Social Action Award Friday morning in conjunction with the group’s HBCU Football Classic weekend.

The HBCU Classic Committee selected Inglis because his “support of education has encouraged our community, our state, and our nation to set goals of providing quality education of the highest standard. Your role in our society represents the dreams of success to which our citizens strive.”

Inglis praised the role of organizer Brandon Brown and said, "There will always be a role for the kind of nurturing environment and opportunity to excel offered by historically black colleges."

Inglis hosts a quarterly Minority Affairs Council meeting around the Fourth Congressional District with each meeting designed to discuss and tackle a specific issue.

The awards come during a weekend of activities on behalf of Greenville Historically Black Colleges & Universities with the Classic football game serving as the weekend’s backdrop. Concordia College will take on Livingstone College Saturday night at 7 p.m. in Greenville at Sirrine Stadium
