DOLE ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY IN COMMITTEE-APPROVED BILL

July 16th, 2008 - Washington, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole today applauded the Committee approval of the fiscal year 2009 Financial Services appropriations bill, which allocates $750,000 that Dole helped secure for Appalachian State University (ASU) for a viticulture and agritourism research program in Western North Carolina.

“I am proud to support initiatives, such as ASU’s viticulture and agritourism research program, that support economic development and job creation in Western North Carolina,” said Dole.

ASU will use the funding to study the economic impact of viticulture and agritourism in western North Carolina. The state is currently the 10th largest producer of wine in the United States.

Once approved by the Senate, this version of the appropriations bill must be reconciled in conference with the House of Representatives-passed version of the bill. A final bill then will have to be approved by both the House and the Senate and go before the president for his signature.
