Reducing Road Congestion and Improving Highway Infrastructure

Working to revitalize communities and reduce road congestion throughout the district, Congressman Tierney secured $16 million in funding for local projects within the final version of the highway and mass transit reauthorization bill entitled Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), which was enacted in 2005.

Below is a list of projects for which Congressman Tierney secured funds:

$3,000,000 - Gloucester - Roadway, pedestrian, and access improvements along the Washington Street Corridor
$2,299,000 - Rockport - Improvements to Rockport Station
$1,672,000 - Beverly - Design and construction of garage
$1,672,000 - Newburyport - Design and construction of garage
$1,672,000 - Salem - Design and construction of garage
$1,600,000 - Amesbury and Newburyport - Rehabilitation of Whittier Bridge, which carries Rt. I-95 over the Merrimack River between Amesbury and Newburyport
$1,600,000 - Peabody and Danvers - Roadway improvements to Route 128: Route 114 in Peabody and Routes 35 and 62 in Danvers
$800,000 - Danvers and Salisbury - Design and engineering of 30-mile bikeway extending south from the Town of Salisbury to the Town of Danvers.
$800,000 - North Andover - Improvements to roads located at the Old Town Center
$800,000 - Burlington and Bedford - Crosby Drive Improvement Project.
$200,000 - Newburyport - Rehabilitation and paving of Parker River Road
