Tierney Announces Critical Funding for Local Communities

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman John F. Tierney (D-MA) announced that an estimated $5 million for projects important to residents and communities in his district was included in the omnibus spending bill recently passed by the U.S. Congress.

"I am pleased these critical local projects will receive funding this fiscal year. Among other things, they help address transportation and flood control priorities, expand health services for those in need, better equip our workforce and educate our kids about drugs," Tierney said.

Earlier this year, Congressman Tierney met with mayors, town administrators and officials from public and private organizations to discuss key projects of importance to the people of his district.

Below is a list and a brief description of the items (in alphabetical order) for which Congressman Tierney has secured funding:

Amesbury Transportation Center - $249,500


To assist with design and construction of this project, which is expected to improve mass transit between Amesbury and its major employment centers, including Boston.


Beverly Intermodal Station - $124,750


To assist with design and construction of parking garage in Beverly, which will help reduce the strain on the existing local mass transit system.


Blue Line Extension to City of Lynn - $1.96 million

To advance this critical project, which seeks to address 6th District mass transit needs by connecting local communities directly to Logan Airport as well as to Boston’s existing rapid transit network


Children’s Friend and Family Services - $238,755

To assist with the renovation of Children's new facility in Salem which will allow them to provide pediatric and mental health counseling services to more individuals and families.


Essex County Sheriff’s Heroin and Oxycontin Program - $505,250

To support the Sheriff Department's efforts to address this pressing problem and to educate the public and, specifically, juveniles about the dangers of heroin and oxycontin.


Essex County Sheriff’s Law Enforcement Information Sharing Project - $235,000

To upgrade the Sheriff Department’s communications system so as to improve its data collection and interoperability with other local or regional law enforcement agencies.


E-TEAM Machinist Job Training Program - $286,896

To support a workforce-training program headquartered in Lynn, which produces highly skilled entry level workers for local manufacturers.


Massachusetts Sheriff's Information Sharing Project - $223,250

To support upgrading the communications systems of the other Massachusetts Sheriff Department's.


Newburyport Harbor Entrance Channel Maintenance Dredging - $654,000

To restore the entrance channel to its congressionally-authorized dimensions, restore navigability and alleviate potentially hazardous conditions.


North River in Peabody Flood Reduction - $98,000

To complete the feasibility phase of this project, which is designed to stop future flooding events in the City of Peabody.


North Shore Health Project’s Hepatitis C Program - $144,449

To educate individuals in Gloucester and other communities about Hepatitis C (HCV) and provide support to those who are infected with HCV.


Salem Intermodal Station - $124,750

To assist with design and construction of parking garage in Salem, which will help reduce the strain on the existing local mass transit system.


Silicon Based Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Chip Development - $492,000

To assist and accelerate research and development of the fuel cell prototypes.


Wakefield Community Recreational Center - $199,600


To assist with the construction of a community recreational facility, which will provide opportunities to youth, young adults, adults and seniors in the Greenwood Section of Wakefield.
