Tierney E-Alert: Upcoming Community Meeetings

Dear Neighbor,

I would like to invite you to join me at a community meeting to discuss issues of importance to you and your family. Over the past few months, I have been working in Washington on many important issues such as education, jobs, and homeland security. I would like to share my efforts, provide information and answer any questions that you may have.

I will also be talking about an issue on many of our minds: how to address rising gas prices as we move into the summer months. To deal with these rising prices, I believe we need to enact a policy focused on clean and alternative energy that will allow the United States to become energy independent. Since taking over the majority, we have started an immediate shift in legislation from one which favors the big gas companies to one that favors the consumer and the environment. To do this, I have co-sponsored:

  • The PUMP Act which will provide oversight and transparency to energy markets, protecting consumers from those speculators who try to hide debt, inflate profits and manipulate markets.
  • The Energy Price Gouging Prevention Act which will provide immediate relief to consumers by giving the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) explicit authority to investigate and punish those who artificially inflate the price of energy.
  • The PROGRESS Act which, among other things, will contribute to the development and use of alternative energy sources.
  • The Fuel Economy Reform Act which strenghens average fleet-wide fuel economy standards.
I hope to see you at one of my community meetings. Locations and times are below. Meetings are also being planned later this month for Amesbury and Wakefield.
  • Saturday, June 9th at 9:30 AM in Lynn at North Shore Community College, MBTA Conference Room, on the corner of Market and Broad Streets.
  • Saturday, June 9th at 12:30 PM in Beverly at the Beverly Public Library, Program Room, 32 Essex Street.
Please feel free to share this e-mail with anyone you think may be interested in receiving one of these E-Newsletters. For more information, please call my Peabody office at (978) 531-1669. I hope to see you at a meeting!

Sincerely,
