U.S. Congressman John Shadegg strongly supports legislation passed late last night to save the life of Terri Schiavo, the disabled Florida woman who has been without food or water for three days as a result of a court ruling. “Since Terri did not have a living will and her exact wishes are impossible to determine, we must err on the side of protecting innocent life,” Shadegg said. “I support this effort to save a life, and I hope that future court decisions in this case will properly respect how sacred every life is.” Shadegg was on his way to vote for the legislation to save Schiavo last night, but his plane was delayed by mechanical difficulties. He was forced to spend an hour on the ground at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport, and missed the vote. The legislation, which passed the House 203-58, will allow Schiavo’s parents to petition the federal courts to intervene and restore her feeding tube.
