Brown, Voinovich Team Up to Introduce Senate Resolution Honoring OSU Football

September 12, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. – United States Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and George Voinovich (R-OH)  introduced a Senate resolution honoring The Ohio State University (OSU) football team and its 800th win.

“The Buckeye’s 800th all-time win is an extraordinary achievement,” said Brown, an alumnus of OSU. “Every Ohioan can be proud of this accomplishment that only a handful of major college football programs claim. This weekend, we’ll see another victory as the Buckeyes take on that team from Hollywood.”

“The Ohio State Buckeyes are not only the best team in the nation, they’re my alma mater,” Sen. Voinovich said. “This is one in many historic feats for the team and the university. And I can promise you this: it won’t be the last.”

On September 6, The Ohio State University football team achieved its 800th win, becoming the 5th major college football program to reach this mark. The resolution celebrates the athletic accomplishments of the team.

OSU was ranked first in the Big Ten Academic All-Conference Team for the 2007-08 academic year. The program has produced 1,877 All-Americans in its history, and has been commended nationally in 2007-08 for its National Collegiate Athletic Association academic progress rate, Overall Excellence in Diversity, and for ranking 2nd in the Degree Completion Program.
