Kurth faces conspiracy charge
Sept. 17
MATTHEW OLSON

Kenosha businessman Gerald Kurth has been charged with conspiracy to conceal about $100,000 in cash, including allegedly using more than $10,000 to make improper campaign contributions.

U.S. Attorney Steven M. Biskupic announced Tuesday that Kurth, managing partner of Shenanigans taverns, concealed money obtained from his nightclub, restaurant and liquor businesses. Kurth faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines if convicted.

The charge alleges that Kurth, 55, used $10,000 between October 2006 and April 2008 to fund or reimburse campaign contributions to candidates he favored in an attempt to replace officials he felt jeopardized the licensing at his businesses.
