STATEMENT OF U.S. SENATOR DANIEL K. AKAKA ON THE NOMINATION OF GENERAL ERIC SHINSEKI AS ARMY CHIEF OF STAFF

April 21, 1999
United States Senator Daniel K. Akaka (D - Hawaii) issued the following statement on the nomination of General Eric K. Shinseki, U.S. Army, by President Clinton to serve as Army Chief of Staff:

"General Shinseki is a man of tremendous integrity and vision. The President has chosen an excellent and capable leader. General Shinseki has distinguished himself in every assignment given him, and I have every confidence that he is the ideal person to lead our Army and prepare the men and women under his command for any challenge our country may face in the next century. The people of Hawaii share the pride of the Shinseki family in rise of this son of Kauai to the top post in the U.S. Army."
