Energy
The spike in gas prices have had a real impact on the American economy, and on the monthly budget of every Utahn. There are no quick or easy solutions to our energy problems, but there are real steps we can take to strengthen the weakest links in our nation’s energy system. I authored several provisions in the 2005 comprehensive energy law that hit right at the heart of our energy problems — lack of refining capacity, less dependence on foreign oil, and the need for more alternative sources of energy.

This Congress, I want to build on the successes of the 2005 energy law with bipartisan legislation aiming to further the growth of plug-in hybrid technology through tax credits to drivers, auto-makers, and utility companies.

We need to continue to pursue a forward-looking energy policy, and Utah, with our largely untapped energy reserves, and our world-wide reputation for industriousness and wise land policy, will have a vital role to play in such a forward-looking policy. As our nation grows and our energy consumption increases, we must continue to keep Utah communities supplied with affordable and reliable energy resources.
