SEN. HATCH HAILS WADDOUPS' NOMINATION TO FEDERAL BENCH IN UTAH

Washington – Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) today praised the nomination of Salt Lake City attorney Clark Waddoups to the federal bench in Utah.

The White House this week nominated Waddoups to fill the seat of U.S. District Judge Paul Cassell, who vacated the position in November to teach at the University of Utah. Hatch hailed Waddoups’ nomination, calling the 62-year-old trial attorney one of the nation’s top lawyers and a great fit for the job.

“Clark Waddoups is ideally suited for the federal trial bench,” Hatch said. “He is both experienced in litigation and evenhanded in character. Even in a political environment, even in an election year, I hope my Senate colleagues will see Clark’s overwhelming qualifications and confirm him this year to fill this important judicial post.”

A senior partner at one of Utah’s premier law firms, Waddoups specializes in commercial litigation, including cases involving anti-trust, labor, securities, environmental issues and insurance claims. In the 2008 edition of “The Best Lawyers in America,” Waddoups was rated as the nation’s 26th best attorney.

Waddoups of Parr, Waddoups, Brown, Gee & Loveless has a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a juris doctorate from the University of Utah’s law school. He has served as a clerk for Judge J. Clifford Wallace of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and has practiced law extensively in California and Utah.
