Fighting Alzheimer's at Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute

The Blanchette Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute (BRNI) was founded in Morgantown in 1999 by Senator Rockefeller and his family to help advance medical and scientific understanding of Alzheimer's and other diseases of the brain.

BRNI is the world's only non-profit institute dedicated exclusively to the study of both human memory and diseases of memory. Its primary mission is to accelerate neurological discoveries from the lab, including diagnostic tools and treatments, to the clinic to benefit patients who suffer from neurological and psychiatric diseases.

Located on the campus of West Virginia University, BRNI is operated in alliance with WVU in Morgantown as well as in collaboration with other academic institutions such as Johns Hopkins University.

The Institute is attracting researchers from around the world to undertake cutting edge research, and they have already produced amazing results. Researchers have identified a potential new drug for treating Alzheimer's and a test to diagnose the disease, both of which will enter clinical testing soon.

A new $30 million state-of-the-art BRNI research facility is currently under construction at West Virginia University. Expected to open in Fall 2008, the approximately 80,000 square feet three-level building will house 100 scientists by 2012.
