HEATHER COURI Chief of Staff
Heather is responsible for the oversight of daily operations in the Washington, D.C. and Texas offices. Heather works with the staff to ensure that the goals of the office are in line with those of the Sixth District. She also works with Congressman Barton to prioritize his goals and ensure implementation of those goals and objectives.
Heather came to Capitol Hill in 1988, and has worked for Congressman Barton since 1991. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and International Business from the University of Texas. Heather is a native of San Antonio, Texas, where her family still resides.
THERESA LAVERY Legislative Director
Theresa is responsible for overseeing the legislative operations for the Congressman. She also serves as a contact for the Energy and Commerce Committee. Theresa handles the following issues for the office: Commerce, Consumer Protection, Energy, Homeland Security, Immigration, Privacy, Telecommunications, Trade, and Transportation.
Theresa began working for Congressman Barton in January of 2001. She is a graduate of Texas A&M-Commerce, formerly East Texas State University, with a B.A. in Political Science and History. Theresa is a native of Grand Prairie, Texas.
RYAN THOMPSON
Ryan serves as a liaison between the personal office and the committee office. He also handles a variety of special projects for the Congressman.
After serving four years on active duty in the U.S. Marine Corps, Ryan graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in History. A native of Austin, Ryan has been with Mr. Barton since 2002.
SEAN BROWN Press Secretary
As Congressman Barton’s Press Secretary, Sean is in charge of handling all press calls and press inquiries. In addition, he handles the weekly column and The Barton Briefing. By working with local and national press, Sean helps the Congressman promote his initiatives.
Sean joined the Barton staff in 2008. He graduated from George Washington University in 1996 with a degree in Political Communication. He also has a masters from Northwestern University in Broadcast Journalism. Sean is from Mesquite, TX.
MICHAEL TAYLOR Senior Legislative Assistant/Systems Administrator
As Legislative Assistant, Michael is responsible for making the Congressman aware of upcoming activity on the House floor. His specialty areas include Agriculture, Budget, Housing, Labor, Social Security, Tax and Veterans issues. Michael also meets with constituents and other organizations who have concerns in these areas of his expertise. In addition, he serves as the Congressman's Systems Administrator. Finally, Michael assists Congressman Barton in his efforts to answer individual legislative inquiries from his constituency. He handles Agriculture, Economy, Energy, Environment, Finance, Guns, Interior, Tax and other issues important to the Sixth Congressional District.
Michael graduated from Texas A&M University in 2002 with a degree in Agriculture. He has been with the Barton staff since 2004.
MICHAEL WEEMS Legislative Assistant
As Legislative Assistant, Michael is responsible for following floor proceedings. He also handles Appropriations, Budget, Defense, Federal Affairs, Foreign Affairs, Social Issues, Space, Science, Technology, and Veterans Affairs for the Congressman.
Michael joined the Barton staff in January of 2006. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is from Austin, TX.
Sarah Whiting Legislative Assistant
As Legislative Assistant, Sarah is responsible for Environmental, Education, Ethics, Immigration, Labor, Postal, and Social Security legislation for the Congressman.
Sarah joined Congressman Barton's staff in 2008. She is from Richmond, TX and graduated from Texas A&M in 2005.
MARTIE BEHRENS Legislative Correspondent
As Legislative Correspondent, Martie assists Congressman Barton in his efforts to answer individual legislative inquiries from his constituency. Martie handles Agriculture, Budget, Congressional Reform, Economy, Finance, Immigration, Housing, Labor, Social Issues, Social Security, Taxes and Trade issues.
Martie is from Burkburnett, TX. She graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a degree in Political Science. Martie joined the Barton staff in 2007.
