Dear Friend,

As we look ahead to 2008, I believe that it is important to reflect on our many accomplishments as a Congress in 2007. In the first year of the 110th Congress, I helped pass several key measures that have been signed into law that I believe will benefit Arkansas’s working families, farm families and students.

I am proud to have helped pass bipartisan legislation last year that will increase the minimum wage from $5.15 an hour to $7.25. This was the first increase in the federal minimum wage in 10 years and it shows a commitment by the Democratic majority in Congress to help hard working American families better provide for their children. I also fought to pass a landmark energy bill that will benefit our farm families by investing in the production of renewable fuels such as cellulosic ethanol and biodiesel. As we prepare our children to work in a global economy, I was proud to pass legislation that will make college more affordable and accessible for millions of Americans by cutting rates on loans and help to provide even more students with a world class education.

Amidst these important accomplishments, there is still much more work to be done in Washington in 2008. I will maintain my call for a new direction in the war in Iraq so that our friends and loved ones can return home to their families. With my seat on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I will continue working to move our nation’s energy policy forward so that we can break our reliance on foreign oil for our nation’s energy needs. I will also use my seat on the Health Subcommittee to continue fighting to extend health care coverage to 110,000 Arkansas children, because one child without health care in this country is one too many.

Congress made great strides in 2007 by taking significant steps to clean up the mess in Washington, and restore the American people’s trust in Congress. As your Representative in Washington, I will continue working on behalf of all Arkansans in 2008 and would like to thank each of you who contacted me about the issues that are important to you. Many challenges await this Congress this year, and I am proud to be your voice in Washington to continue my fight for the working families that call Arkansas’s Fourth Congressional District home.

Sincerely,

Mike Ross Signature
