CONTACT: Allyson Groff or Blake Androff, 202-226-9019

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. House of Representatives today marked its final stamp of approval on a bipartisan collection of 61 separate House-passed measures dealing with a wide range of National Park, public lands, water, and territorial issues affecting Members' districts all across America.   The legislation, approved by a vote of 291-117, will now be sent to the White House to be signed into law.

Fifty-seven of the bills included in the Consolidated Natural Resources Act of 2008 (S. 2739), approved in the Senate on April 11, 2008, originated in the House Natural Resources Committee, chaired by Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-WV).

Rahall, who worked alongside House Natural Resources Subcommittee Chairmen Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), Grace Napolitano (D-CA), and Donna Christensen (D-VI) to shepherd the separate measures through the House, commended his colleagues for the bipartisan cooperation that enabled passage of the legislation and noted that the package was almost evenly split between bills sponsored by Democrats and Republicans.

"I am pleased to have had the privilege to oversee in Committee and on the House Floor the myriad measures in this wide-ranging bill that have finally cleared the hurdles of both bodies and are now on the path to the President's desk.  From the long-awaited designation of Wild Sky wilderness in the State of Washington to the much-needed reform of immigration law on the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), I applaud my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for their good work to uphold our responsibility to the land, the natural resources, and the people that make America unique," Rahall said.
