(GRAND FORKS, N.D.) --- U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) visited Friday with officials at Grand Forks Air Force Base to get an update on progress on the new unmanned aircraft systems mission and other issues critical to the base. He was hosted by Brigadier General S. Taco Gilbert III, who is the Director of Strategic Plans, Requirement and Programs at the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command and by Colonel John Michel, the commander of the 319th Air Refueling Wing.

In meetings with Brigadier General Gilbert and Colonel Michel, Dorgan said he’d continue to work in Congress to ensure the men and women at Grand Forks Air Force Base have the resources they need to carry out their mission. He said he’s also working with Air Force officials to search for new missions and capabilities to bring to the base, including the KC-X, the new tanker that the United States will build in the next few years.

“Grand Forks Air Force Base is a world-class base with some of the Air Force’s best personnel, and the support it receives from the community is unmatched. It will continue to play a key role in our national defense for many years to come,” Dorgan said.
