Findlay awarded $1.4M to clear flooded homes

FINDLAY — The Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded the city of Findlay $1,428,000 to buy and remove as many as 16 flood-damaged homes near the Blanchard River, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D., Ohio) announced yesterday.

The number of buildings that actually will be purchased and removed is uncertain because the homeowners’ participation is voluntary. But the grant’s purpose is to remove structures that have been affected repeatedly by flooding and to allow flooding to occur naturally in the future without damaging property, the senator said.
