(WASHINGTON, D.C.)  The future site of GE in Billings, the Transtech Center is about to get some help from the federal government, thanks to a grant announced today by U.S. Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester.

The U.S. Department of Commerce awarded the Big Sky Economic Development Authority a grant for $758,406.  Big Sky EDA will use the money to build a parking lot for the Transtech Center in Billings. The Transtech Center will be home for the 200 employees GE plans to hire when it opens its commercial finance operations center next year. Baucus was instrumental in bringing GE to Billings- the company first considered coming to Montana after attending Baucus’ Economic Summit in Butte last year.

“This is one of the final steps towards opening the doors at the Transtech Center so that GE can move in and start hiring employees,” Baucus said. “Simple things like a parking lot can bring a lot of economic value to the Billings community.”

“Investing in infrastructure lays the foundation for our community and our future,” Tester said. “The new GE Center will bring good-paying jobs to Billings, and I am pleased that federal money is going to help make that happen.”

GE expects the new operations center to be fully operational by the middle of next year.
