The 2008 United States Mint 50 State Quarters Proof Set™ features five new quarter designs: Oklahoma’s “Scissortail Flycatcher,” New Mexico’s “Land of Enchantment,” Arizona’s “Grand Canyon State,” Alaska’s “The Great Land,” and Hawaii’s “King Kamehameha I.” Unlike circulating coins, each proof coin is struck at least twice with specially polished dies under very high pressure to produce sharp designs and a mirror-like finish.
