Rachel Davis, Micah Oliver named to Robert L. Woodson summer internship

Urban League of the Upstate, Rep. Bob Inglis co-sponsoring joint summer internship

Rising juniors Rachel Davis and Micah Oliver have been selected as the final-two students for the inaugural Robert L. Woodson Jr. Summer Internship Program sponsored by the Urban League of the Upstate and U.S. Rep. Bob Inglis.

Started this summer, the three paid internships gives students the opportunity to live in Washington, DC and work in the Fourth Congressional District Office. Students participate in leadership development, while learning about Congress and the daily operation of a Congressional office.

Davis is a junior majoring in Bio-behavioral Health at Penn State University in State College, Pa. Davis will serve her internship from June 16-July 11.

Oliver attends the University of South Carolina where he is a political science major. A native of Mauldin, Oliver will be in Washington from July 14-August 8.

Cynthia Lewis, selected as the first intern for the program earlier this summer, has been hired full time by Inglis since beginning her internship in early June. Lewis will work in the Washington office as a Legislative Assistant.

The Robert L. Woodson Jr. internship program is named in honor of Inglis’ House Budget Committee Associate who was killed in a tragic 2003 automobile accident.

At the time of his death, Woodson served as the chief of staff for the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) and is remembered for his fierce and passionate devotion to expanding housing opportunities for all Americans.

Robert L. Woodson Jr. Summer Internship Program – Eligibility Criteria

  1. Minimum – Applicants must be currently enrolled as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program.
  2. Must be a US citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. High academic achievement (preference given to those with GPA of 3.0 or higher).
  4. Strong analytical and writing skills.
  5. Participation in public or community service activities.
