SENATOR COLLINS ANNOUNCES RE-OPENING OF VAN BUREN PORT OF ENTRY
Collins called on GSA, CBP to re-open Port of Entry as soon as possible

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, today announced that the Port of Entry in Van Buren will re-open on Wednesday at Noon for passenger traffic. The Port of Entry was closed due to recent flooding in the area.

The Port of Entry will only be open to passenger traffic until tests are completed to ensure the area can support commercial traffic as well.

Yesterday, Senator Collins sent a letter to the top officials at the office of Customs and Border Protection and the General Services Administration calling on the agencies to reopen the Van Buren port of entry as soon as possible. She also offered her assistance to help in that effort.

“It is good news for the Northern Maine community that the decision has been made to re-open the Van Buren Port of Entry to passenger traffic,” said Senator Collins. “It is an important step in allowing traffic to return to normal following the flooding. We are awaiting results of soil boring tests which will determine whether commercial traffic will be allowed through the port of entry, and I will continue to work with GSA to ensure that short-term solutions are adequate, and that the Van Buren Port of Entry is fully operational as soon as possible.”
