Fortenberry Joins Nebraska Colleagues to Discuss Energy Bill with Press

Washington D.C. - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) joined House colleagues Tom Osborne (R-NE) and Lee Terry (R-NE) in a press teleconference highlighting the comprehensive Energy Policy Act of 2005, currently under debate on the House floor.

"High energy costs hurt all Nebraskans. This bill establishes a comprehensive energy policy to provide a long-term supply of safe and secure energy in an environmentally sensitive fashion," Fortenberry said.

"In doing so, it sets a course toward greater conservation and efficiency, improves environmental stewardship, and encourages additional reliance on renewable fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel."

Fortenberry drew attention to the $2 billion investment that the bill makes in getting hydrogen fuel-cell cars on the road by 2020, indicating that shortly after the press conference he would be driving a prototype hydrogen vehicle.

"I'll be taking a drive in a hydrogen car in just a few hours," Fortenberry said. "This bill will bring public and private resources together to get this clean and efficient technology on our roads as quickly as possible."
