Fortenberry Welcomes Members of Czech Republic Parliament to Nebraska

Lincoln, NE - On Friday, April 11, Congressman Jeff Fortenberry will welcome members of the Parliament of the Czech Republic to Lincoln.  The Czech delegation consists of Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Parliament, and includes its chairman, Mr. Ian Hamacek.

“It is an honor to welcome leaders of the Czech Republic to Nebraska,” Fortenberry said. “Our state has strong historical and cultural ties to the Czech people.  This visit by members of Parliament will strengthen our friendship and diplomatic relationship with the nation.”

The distinguished guests will meet with the Congressman in the morning, present a lecture on International Law at the University of Nebraska College of Law, visit with Secretary of State John Gale and Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, and attend a Czech History Class at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Nebraska’s per capita population of persons with Czech ancestry is the highest in the nation. One in ten Nebraskans can trace their roots to Czech immigrants.  In 2006, Fortenberry welcomed Ambassador Petr Kolar, the Czech Ambassador to the United States, to Nebraska.  At that time, the Congressman and Ambassador Kolar visited the Village of Prague and celebrated Czech heritage and culture with members of the community.

Fortenberry is a member of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and serves on the House Democracy Assistance Commission.  His work involves assisting members of foreign parliaments and providing insight into the American democratic process.

Media is welcome to attend a media availability with members of the Czech delegation at Rep. Fortenberry’s Lincoln office at 10 a.m.
