Fortenberry Votes to Strengthen Safety Standards for Children’s Products

Washington, DC - Congressman Jeff Fortenberry today applauded the House passage of H.R. 4040, the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act, a bill which he cosponsored.

“Americans deserve to know that products on store shelves, particularly toys for children, will be safe for use,” Fortenberry said. “This bill will establish safeguards to better protect our children from unsafe imported goods.”

The Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act improves product safety by banning lead in children’s products beyond a stringent trace amount, requiring independent third-party testing for children’s products, and establishing mandatory safety standards for nursery products. It also strengthens the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
