(Washington, DC) - Sixth District Congressman James E. Clyburn is pleased to announce the Claflin University Gospel Choir will perform at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) Gospel Extravaganza on September 25 from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the New Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. Congressman Clyburn invited the choir to participate in this annual event.
The Gospel Extravaganza is co-hosted by Congressman Clyburn along with fellow CBC members Congressman Frank Balance (NC), Congressman Sanford Bishop (GA) and Congressman Bennie Thompson (MS). Choirs from Georgia, Mississippi and North Carolina will also be represented. The event is a part of the CBCF's Annual Legislative Conference, which runs from September 24th through the 28th.
The Claflin University Gospel Choir, under the direction of David Carmichael, is comprised of 70 students dedicated to spreading their Christian faith through the use of song. The group has been featured all over South Carolina with performances including Columbia, Spartanburg, Kingstree, Sumter, Walterboro and Orangeburg. The group has traveled to cities like Atlanta and Brooklyn, N.Y., to perform, often catching the attention of local communities and news media inquiring about future performances.
"I'm honored to have an extraordinarily talented group like the Claflin University Gospel Choir to travel to Washington to be featured at this important legislative conference," Congressman Clyburn said. "I am certain these students will represent Claflin University and the people of South Carolina very well."
