Clyburn Floor Remarks on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act
November 7, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC—“Madam Speaker, before coming to Congress I served 18 years as South Carolina’s Human Affairs Commissioner. In this position I came to find that bigotry and homophobia are sentiments that should never be allowed to permeate the American workplace. Such intolerance does nothing but take us back to a dark moment in our nation’s history that most of us never want to revisit.
Clyburn Floor Remarks on Water Resources Development Act
November 6, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC—“The importance of this bill are highlighted throughout my District and this country. Part of my District has been labeled by some as the corridor of shame, communities bisected by interstate I-95. This region of South Carolina has some of the more serious health problems to be found anywhere in this country.
Clyburn Floor Remarks on North Carolina Beach House Fire Resolution
November 6, 2007
WASHINGTON, DC—“America’s troops serve our country with honor and distinction. The President disgraces their service by not adequately rewarding them for their heroic acts and brave deeds. I urge this Administration to change course and join Congressional Democrats in supporting measures that properly acknowledge and compensate our veterans for the many sacrifices they make defending our freedoms.”
