Committees - Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs

Chuck is a member of the Banking Committee and Chairman of the Economic Policy Subcommittee. The Banking Committee oversees the Senate's work on a wide range of issues that are of particular importance to the people of New York. Specifically, it must approve all legislation relating to the following areas:

  • Banks, banking, and financial institutions.
  • Control of prices of commodities, rents and services.
  • Deposit insurance.
  • Economic stabilization and defense production.
  • Export and foreign trade promotion.
  • Export controls.
  • Federal monetary policy, including the Federal Reserve System.
  • Financial aid to commerce and industry.
  • Issuance and redemption of notes.
  • Money and credit, including currency and coinage.
  • Nursing home construction.
  • Public and private housing (including veterans housing).

From his seat on the Banking Committee, Chuck has recently fought predatory lending, sponsored the Commuter Benefits Equity Act to reduce air pollution and road congestion and save money for millions of New Yorkers, and battled to maintain sanctions against Iran and Libya to ensure our security against terrorism.

The Economic Policy Subcommittee is responsible for guaranteeing the long-term prosperity and stability of the U.S. economy and for overseeing the Federal Reserve Board, perhaps the government's most important agency.
