Sutton Secures Funding for Projects in Summit County

Congresswoman Betty Sutton secured funding for numerous projects in Summit County and other nearby communities in the Fiscal Year 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill which passed in both the House and Senate and is expected to be signed into law by the President shortly.


"I am extremely pleased that so many important programs in Summit County will benefit from our efforts on the Omnibus Appropriations bill," Sutton said. "These programs will improve the lives of families and communities in Ohio's 13th Congressional District by providing them with improved services, health care and educational opportunities."

Congresswoman Sutton secured the following funds that will be allocated to organizations in and around Summit County:


  • $282,000 to Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens' for their ongoing programs for at-risk youth.

  • $490,000 to Summit County Engineer to improved accessibility to CuyahogaValley National Park.

  • $350,000 to Cuyahoga County for the Echo Hills Waste Water Treatment Plant project.

  • $358,632 to the Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron for construction and renovation of Akron Children's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

  • $238,755 to the Akron Public Schools for the Math, Science, and TechnologyCommunity Learning Center. Congresswoman Sutton worked in conjunction with Senator Voinovich to secure this funding.

  • $143,449 to the University of Akron for the STEM2 Education and Career Pathways program. Congresswoman Sutton worked in conjunction with Congresswoman Tim Ryan to secure this funding.
