Dingell Statement on Vehicle Efficiency Standards

Washington, D.C. – Rep. John D. Dingell, Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, made the following statement tonight in response to consideration of amendments on vehicle efficiency standards to the House energy bill:

“As evidenced by the markup of energy legislation in the Committee on Energy and Commerce, I have long been committed to moving a strong energy bill that all Democrats can support.

“I commend Ed Markey and Baron Hill for their decisions to withdraw their amendments on fuel efficiency standards in the interest of promoting passage of a consensus energy bill. I look forward to working on this matter with great care in the fall as part of an economy wide system of regulating greenhouse gases.

“Representatives Hill and Terry have introduced H.R. 2927 which would aggressively reduce the use of fuel and emissions of carbon dioxide without hurting American jobs. This legislation has rapidly garnered the support of more than 140 Members of Congress from all regions of the nation in both political parties, including me.”
