Head Start

A strong advocate for Head Start and school nutrition programs, Senator Rockefeller has worked to ensure that West Virginia's 24 Head Start programs have the resources they need to be effective in their communities. Head Start involves the child's family and focuses on all aspects of a child's development, including their emotional, educational, social, health, nutritional, and physical needs. These programs focus on low-income children, and work to prepare them for school. Within the Head Start program, Senator Rockefeller is working to combat childhood obesity and is seeking to highlight a successful West Virginia program as a national model for obesity prevention.
