WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) today cosponsored legislation introduced by U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) to repeal sections of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which gave greater authority to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to approve new locations for liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities. The Wyden bill would restore local control over this important issue.

“For the past seven years, the Bush Administration has advocated energy policies that prioritize corporate interests over the public interest,” Senator Obama said. “I am proud to join Senator Wyden to ensure that local residents have a greater say in LNG terminal siting decisions.
