Mountaintop Mining

Senator Rockefeller believes that mining must be done in way that protects the environment, but also protects jobs and West Virginians' way of life. He's always believed that saying we had to choose one or the other was a false choice.

When done right, mountaintop mining is a critical component of the economy of West Virginia. It provides good-paying jobs, flat land for development, and coal to help fuel the nation's electricity.

Rockefeller also understands that it hasn't always been done properly - and that more needs to be done to ensure that companies follow the law. He will continue his efforts to press for the proper level of enforcement from our state and federal agencies.
