ARCURI JOINS BIPARTISAN CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION MISSION TO IRAQ

August 27, 2007

Washington, DC -- U.S. Rep. Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica) will tour Iraq this week and meet with high-ranking U.S. and Iraqi officials on the ground during a bipartisan Congressional Delegation mission led by fellow U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL).

“This trip will provide me the opportunity to talk directly with generals on the ground so that I have all the information necessary to vote for the best possible plan to responsibly bring our troops home without jeopardizing their safety and wellbeing,” said Arcuri. “Most importantly, I will speak with troops on the ground to learn what they need to continue doing the best possible job and remain safe.”

Arcuri’s tentative schedule includes:

• Working Lunch with General David Petraeus, Commanding General of the Multi-National Force-Iraq and Ryan Crocker, U.S. Ambassador to Iraq;
• Civilian Police Assistance Training Team brief with Brigadier General Mike Jones, Multi-National Security Transition Command-Iraq;
• Meeting with Lieutenant General Raymond Odierno, Commander Multi-National Corps-Iraq;
• Meeting with Senior Iraqi Military Leadership;
• Visit with wounded soldiers and tour Multi-National Force facilities.
