ARCURI, MCNULTY AND GILLIBRAND RESPOND TO AMERICAN EAGLE ALBANY CUT

June 26, 2008

Washington, DC -- In response to the announcement today that American Eagle will cease all operations at Albany International Airport, U.S. Representatives Michael A. Arcuri (D-Utica), Michael R. McNulty (D-Albany) and Kirsten E. Gillibrand (D-Hudson) released the following statement:

“This decision by American Eagle will only decrease competition among local air carriers and cause the cost of air travel to go up even more for people who live in the region.  Everyday families face the same rising costs of fuel that the airline gives as its reason for cutting its service to Albany altogether. Over the last decade, Albany International Airport has been successful in lowering fares by attracting airlines that offer consumers expanded regional and national service. We are committed to doing all that we can in Congress to make sure they are able to continue to do so.”
