Chairman Waxman and Rep. Clay Request Testimony at Hearing on Census Bureau

Chairman Waxman and Subcommittee Chairman Clay invited Secretary of Commerce Gutierrez and Census Bureau Director Steven Murdock to testify at a June hearing regarding the Census Bureau’s preparation for the 2010 census and the mismanaged Field Data Collection Automation (FDCA) contract.

Hearing on FEMA Preparedness in 2007 and Beyond

The Committee will hold a hearing entitled “FEMA Preparedness in 2007 and Beyond” on Tuesday, July 31 focusing on the changes FEMA has undergone and not undergone in order to ensure that the federal government is prepared for and ready to respond to the next catastrophic disaster. The hearing will also examine the disaster preparedness roles for other relevant agencies within federal, state, and local government.

Chairman Waxman Requests GAO Review of Regulatory Process

In a letter to the Government Accountability Office, Chairman Waxman requests that GAO examine how the layers of analysis and review agencies must perform when issuing rules are affecting the agencies’ ability to issue timely and effective rules.

Committee Marks Up Carbon-Neutral Government Act

The Oversight Committee held a business meeting to consider the Carbon-Neutral Government Act (H.R. 2635), which is designed to reduce the emissions of the federal government, currently the largest energy consumer in the United States.
