Tour of Mountain Home Air Force Base

Mountain Home, Idaho
October 19, 2006

Current Event, October 19, 2006

The men and women stationed at Mountain Home Air Force Base continue to serve an important role in our nation's defense and engaging our enemy abroad. On October 19th, I had the opportunity to visit the base and meet with the Wing Commander, Colonel Anthony Rock. Colonel Rock and I discussed the future of our soldiers, and the ways Idaho soldiers are currently assisting in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

As a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, I have been able to secure funding for several vital construction projects at MHAFB. While I was there, I had the opportunity to get a firsthand look at some of their state-of-the-art facilities these funds have helped build, including a new fitness center and new housing for the soldiers. I was also given a tour of some of the more outdated facilities to assess their needs for the future.

Visiting Mountain Home Air Force Base is always a rewarding experience for me, and I appreciate the chance it gives me to thank our soldiers for the work they are doing to protect and defend our country. I will continue to fight hard for our military installations in Idaho and to improve the lives of our soldiers both in combat and at miltary bases here at home.
