Softball on
the Mall

July is celebrated as National Recreation and Parks month...and one of our most visited National Parks is the National Mall complex here in Washington, DC.

Officially established in 1965, National Mall and Memorial Parks contains some of the oldest protected park lands in the National Park Service. The areas within National Mall and Memorial Parks provides access to the many monuments as well as open spaces to walk, jog or even play softball.

Each year members of my staff compete in a Congressional softball league, and I try to come at least once each season. Since most of my staff have Idaho roots, its only appropriate that the name of the team is the Lucky Spuds, and on the night I was there, the skill of the Lucky Spuds propelled the team to a 15-14 victory.
