Current Event, March 5, 2008

Idaho is home to a large population of birds of prey, and we even feature a falcon on our State's quarter. Southwest Idaho is home to the World Center for Birds of Prey as well as the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area. The Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area (NCA), in southwest Idaho, was established in 1993 to protect a unique environment that supports one of the world's densest concentrations of nesting birds of prey. Falcons, eagles, hawks, and owls occur here in unique profusion and variety. It is part of BLM's National Landscape Conservation System.

This month I got a visit from a unique Idahoan--Stella the falcon. Seeing Stella up close is a reminder of the diversity of Idaho wildlife, one of our many natural treasures.
