Alternative Energy

Rich in natural resources and home to skilled labor force, Ohio can become the Silicon Valley of Alternative Energy. If Congress does its part, Ohio will lead the nation in development of alternative energy development and the manufacture and production of component parts. From wind, to solar, to ethanol, we must explore viable renewable energy sources as we work to dramatically lessen our energy usage and carbon emissions the impact of climate change.

The federal government must be a partner for states and businesses looking to invest and develop alternative energy initiatives. The 2007 Energy Bill would authorize loans for renewable energy systems, energy efficiency projects for small businesses, and establish a small business energy efficiency program.

Home-grown biofuels produced in Ohio will advance America’s energy independence by making our scarce oil supply go farther. This burgeoning industry will benefit our agriculture sector and those involved in research and development of other sources of renewable fuels like switchgrass, animal waste, and other forms of cellulosic biomass. The recently passed Senate energy bill included increased funding for such initiatives, and as a member of the Agriculture Committee I will fight to see that additional funding is provided for renewable fuels in the 2007 Farm Bill.
