Military and Veterans
As long as men and women are wearing the uniform of this nation, our government has an obligation to honor its promises to them. Since entering Congress, I have dedicated myself to ensuring that our retired and active duty servicemembers receive the healthcare and benefits promised to them. From working to better the conditions at VA hospitals in Middle Tennessee, to increasing combat compensation and reducing TRICARE fees, I will continue fighting for those who have fought so bravely to protect us.
Here are some of the things I have done:
• Co-sponsored legislation to protect military retirees from proposed healthcare fee hikes, including increases to TRICARE payments;
• Voted for the Wounded Warrior Act, which would improve training for healthcare professionals, as well as reform the VA disability system;
• Co-sponsored the automatic COLA increase for disabled veterans, as well as a bill to repeal the concurrent receipt offset;
• Co-sponsored legislation to give the National Guard a stronger voice and budgetary power in the Department of Defense;
• Actively worked to ensure our veterans and retirees receive the benefits they earned;
• Voted for a budget that includes the single largest increase in veterans' health care funding in the history of the VA;
• Supported the Veterans History Project, which aims to preserve the stories of American veterans for future generations.
