UTEP receives nearly $260,000 in federal grants

REYES ANNOUNCES NEARLY $260,000 IN FEDERAL GRANTS FOR UTEP
Washington, DC - The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) have awarded UTEP with $111,000 and $148,543 (respectively) in federal grants, Congressman Reyes, D-El Paso, announced today.
The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research under HHS will provide funding to UTEP for a project entitled, "Layered Manufacture of Bioactive Porous TE Scaffolds," under the direction of Professor Malcolm Cooke. The funds are the first installment of a multi-year grant that will extend through 2011.
The National Science Foundation's Division of Information and Intelligence Systems will also provide funding for a project entitled, "CPATH CDP: An Integrated, Multidisciplinary and Cross-Fertilizing Model for Computing Education," under the direction of Professor Francois Modave. The project seeks to support efforts to prepare students for careers in science, engineering, and technology.
"I am pleased that the Department of Health and Human Services and the National Science Foundation have provided UTEP with funding to conduct important research in the science, technology, and engineering fields," Congressman Reyes said. "I congratulate UTEP and all those involved in these projects."
