CAPUANO NAMED CHAIR OF SUBCOMMITTEE ON CAPITOL SECURITY
Washington, DC (April 2, 2008) Congressman Michael E. Capuano has been named Chairman of the Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Capitol Security.
The appointment was announced today by House Administration Chairman Robert A. Brady during a Committee business meeting.
“I am extremely pleased that my colleague and friend Congressman Michael Capuano, has agreed to assume this crucial role,” said Brady. “Ensuring the safety and security of visitors, Members and staff is an important responsibility and I can think of no one better suited for this vital position,” Brady added.
The overall mission of the Subcommittee on Capitol Security is to ensure that the people’s representatives can discharge their congressional duties in a safe and secure environment. The subcommittee is also charged with providing oversight for the Sgt. at Arms and United States Capitol Police Force as they work to ensure the safety and security of the millions of visitors to the United States Capitol Complex.
“I am honored to accept this new appointment and I look forward to working with our safety and security professionals to ensure that every reasonable resource is made available to them. I am also strongly committed to ensuring that the Capitol Complex remains open and accessible to visitors who are interested in experiencing their government at work,” Capuano added.
Mr. Capuano’s appointment is effective immediately. He was appointed to the Committee on House Administration by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in February of 2007 and serves as Chair of the House of Representatives’ Commission on Congressional Mailing Standards (Franking Commission). Mr. Capuano is a Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the House Committee on Financial Services. He is Chair of the Democratic Caucus' Committee on Organization, Study and Review, which is charged with interpreting and updating the rules of the Democratic Caucus. Most recently, Mr. Capuano served as Chair of the Special Task Force on Ethics Enforcement.
