Brady Leads Committee on House Administration in Selecting Food Service Vendor

Immediate Release Contact: Kyle Anderson and J.R. Crump
August 06, 2007 (202) 225-7476 and (202) 226-3355

Washington, DC: On Monday, August 6th, Congressman Robert A. Brady, (D-Pa, 1st), Chairman of the Committee on House Administration, announced that Restaurant Associates has been awarded the House Office Complex food service contract.

"The Architect of the Capitol, together with the chief Administrative Officer and others, conducted a competitive process to select a food service vendor for the Capitol Visitors Center," said Brady. "I am pleased that we have now endorsed a decision to bring that vendor, Restaurant Associates, into the House Restaurants by the end of this year."

Restaurant Associates is widely recognized as an industry leader and innovator. Their proposal included a commitment to using fresh ingredients and offering a broader menu. They also showed a strong commitment to the existing food service workforce.

In addition to their superior food service, Restaurant Associates will bring a completely unionized staff to the House, including for the first time the approximately 20 food service workers in the Ford House Office Building. They have also agreed to offer continued employment to the current workforce and will increase sales commissions to the House, resulting in increased revenue. Restaurant Associates was selected from a list of leading food service vendors.

While focusing on improved food quality and service, Restaurant Associates also pledged to join efforts in the Greening of the Capitol Initiative. Their efforts will include finding innovative ways to minimize the environmental impact of our food service operations.

Restaurant Associates is expected to assume management in mid to late December of this year.
