Dingell, Rush Commend CPSC for Improved Import Safety Strategy
Washington, DC — Reps. John D. Dingell (D-MI), the Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, and Bobby L. Rush (D-IL), the Chairman of the Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s import safety strategy:
“We commend the staff of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) for developing an import safety strategy. H.R. 4040, the Consumer Product Safety Modernization Act of 2007, will greatly expand the resources and authority available to the CPSC to ensure the safety of imported consumer products. The House-Senate Conference Committee is currently working on a trade package dealing with enhanced authorities over both imports and exports. We hope to resolve our remaining differences within the month so that we can get the CPSC those necessary tools at the earliest possible date.”
