Committee Hearing on Steroids Postponed

Washington, D.C. – The Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection today announced that, in order to accommodate witness schedules, a January 23 hearing on the use of steroids in professional sports will be rescheduled. A new hearing date will be announced as soon as possible.

Former Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell released a report on December 13, 2007, chronicling steroid use among major league baseball players. This hearing will explore Sen. Mitchell’s findings, as well as the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs among professional athletes in all sports.

In addition to Sen. Mitchell, Representatives from Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Basketball League, the National Hockey League, and others have been invited to provide testimony at the hearing.

Rep. Bobby Rush (D-IL), Chairman of the Subcommittee of Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection, plans to introduce legislation after gathering witness testimony.
