Santa Fe National Cemetery
Santa Fe National Cemetery
June 12, 2008
Dear Friends,
Since 1998, I have been working with the Department of Veterans Affairs on planning for the interment needs of New Mexico’s veterans. The Santa Fe National Cemetery is in need of expansion to accommodate New Mexico’s fallen heroes, and I wanted to update you on the progress of this proposed expansion.
I wrote a letter to Mayor Coss of Santa Fe expressing my support for quick action on the expansion of the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
This week, the Santa Fe City Council planned to address the proposed donation of 5.7 acres to the National Cemetery. No vote was taken on the issue at their June 11th meeting, but a public forum will take place within the next few weeks.
The city of Santa Fe is continuing to work towards expanding the Santa Fe National Cemetery, and I urge them to approve the land donation without delay. I will continue to work with the Santa Fe City Council and the Mayor of Santa Fe to finalize the city’s offer to donate the land.
I look forward to the day when the City of Santa Fe completes this donation and the life of the cemetery is extended, so that all New Mexico veterans will have a final resting place at our national cemetery.
Wish you were here,
